Westport Camping Grounds is conveniently located close to many area attractions. We are only 8 miles from one of the state’s most beautiful beaches; Horseneck Beach State Reservation. With miles of white sand beaches and sand dunes, Horseneck Beach is a sun and sea lovers’ paradise! Newly renovated boardwalk, snack bar, and restrooms add to the appeal. There is a nominal fee for parking.
Westport Camping Grounds is located midway between the historical cities of Fall River and New Bedford. Fall River, home to infamous Lizzie Borden also offers Battleship Cove and the Marine Museum. Fall River is also home to many factory outlets.
New Bedford is home to The Whaling Museum, Seamen’s Bethel (made famous in “Moby Dick”) and the Buttonwood Park Zoo. There is ferry service available from New Bedford State Pier to Martha’s Vineyard several times each day. Fishing trips and whale watching are two other exciting adventures! In early July, please be sure to attend the annual New Bedford Folk Festival in downtown New Bedford. Ask about special camping rates for the 2 day Festival.
Only 30 miles from Westport is the birthplace of it all… Plymouth, Massachusetts. Here visit the living history museum of the Plymouth Plantation where you can interact with live personalities of the day and see a working plantation from the 1600’s.
Adirondack Petting Farm located 10 minutes from the campgrounds in North Westport is fun for all ages. See the reality of a refurbished 1851 working farm. Walk amongst and pet the many varieties of farm animals. Relax and enjoy a picnic on the farm grounds or stroll along a beautiful nature walk. Nominal fee charged.
Only 1/4 mile down the road from the camp, at the Westport River Landing, is Osprey Sea Kayak. (ospreyseakayak.com). Here you can rent a kayak or canoe for an hour or a day or sign up for lessons and group tours of the Westport River. After a day on the water, relax across the street at the The Head Town Landing Country Store. Delicious ice cream served daily and pick up a few provisions you may need.
Only a 25 minute drive West from Westport Camping Grounds is the beautiful town of Newport, Rhode Island. Famous for its Cliff Walk, gorgeous beaches, and the many Gatsby era mansions, a day trip to Newport is a must! And for those who enjoy a little casino action, visit Newport Grand.
Cape Cod with its magnificent beaches and attractions can be reached by driving 1-3 hours (depending on your destination) from our camp. Provincetown (better known as P-Town) is a nearly 3 hour drive to the furthest reaches of the Cape. However, the Gateway cities of Wareham, Onset, or Bourne can be driven in as little as 45 minutes. Or take a local ferry without your automobile from nearby New Bedford, only 10 minutes drive away from camp. Ferry to Martha’s Vineyard, Ferry to Nantucket. A ferry boat that can even transport your vehicle is available in Wood’s Hole. Speaking of Islands… as of 2014 you can now take a trip to beautiful Block Island RI right out of Fall River near the Battleship Cove on the Block Island Ferry.
